Equality of Women
Equality of women has been an important issue that Guru Nanak ji addressed very beautifully in his lines “---So kiyo manda aakhiya, jit jamme Rajan” He said that man is born of women, befriends a woman, marries a woman, and when she dies marries another woman, so why call her bad. She is the one who gives birth to kings.Today more than ever the world needs to remember this and treat women with respect and as an equal, be it at home or at work. The artist here depicts Guru Nanak blessing women and alongside is Bebe Nanaki who supports her brother’s decision. In the Indian culture parents think twice if they have to stay with their daughters, and Guru Nanak Dev stayed with his married sister (Nanki) for some time thus shattering this concept.
This series was part of the Exhibitions in Nov. 2019 at Kala Sangam gallery Bradford,UK. , Faiz Art Festival, Lahore & Sikhlens, LA. It was part of the opening of the first Contemporary Sikh Art Exhibition at Triton Museum of Santa Clara CA.
